Anti-diabetic properties of Gamma-Oryzanol

Year of Study: 2018

Title of the Study: Hypolipidemic and Antioxidant Properties of Oryzanol Concentrate in Reducing Diabetic Nephropathy via SREBP1 Downregulation Rather than β-Oxidation / Bhaskaragoud G. Geetha V. Sharanappa T. Mohan Kumar A. S. Hema Kumar C. Suresh Kumar G. / Molecular Nutrition & Food Research

This study demonstrated that Gamma Oryzanol having hypolipidemic and antioxidant properties also downregulated the lipid biosynthesis through reduced SREBP-1-TGF-B interactions (EMSA) and could effectively ameliorate diabetic nephropathy.

Title of the Study: A novel insulinotropic mechanism of whole grain-derived γ-oryzanol via the suppression of local dopamine D2 receptor signalling in mouse islet / Chisayo Kozuka, Sumito Sunagawa, Rei Ueda, Moritake Higa, Yuzuru Ohshiro, Hideaki Tanaka, Chigusa Shimizu-Okabe, Chitoshi Takayama, Masayuki Matsushita , Masato Tsutsui, Shogo Ishiuchi, Masanori Nakata, Toshihiko Yada, Jun-Ichi Miyazaki, Seiichi Oyadomari, Michio Shimabukuro, Hiroaki Masuzaki / British Journal of Pharmacology

From the results of this study it was concluded that Gamma Oryzanol exhibited unique anti-diabetic properties and the unexpected effects of Gamma Oryzanol on D receptor signalling in islets may provide a novel; natural food-based, approach to anti-diabetic therapy.

Title of the Study: Renoprotective effects of oryzanol in an animal model of experimentally induced diabetic nephropathy /Somsuvra B. Ghatak and Shital S. Panchal / Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine

In this study Oryzanol confirmed marked protection against functional and morphologic injuries in the kidneys of diabetic rats by modulating renal alterations, improving serum lipid profile and attenuating the markers of oxidative and/or nitrosative stress in renal tissues

Title of the Study: Anti-diabetic activity of oryzanol and its relationship with the anti- oxidant property /Somsuvra B. Ghatak and Shital S. Panchal / International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries

The findings of this study indicate that Oryzanol possesses the potential to effectively ameliorate the oxidative stress induced by streptozotocin (STZ) and produce a reduction in blood glucose levels.

Title of the Study: Antidiabetic effects of a standardized Egyptian rice bran extract /Rebecca M Kaup, Mohamed T Khayyal, Eugen J Verspohl / Phytotherapy Research

The results of this study indicate that the prevalence of diabetes or at least a prediabetic (type 2) situation can be ameliorated by the rice bran extract. Gamma Oryzanol, which is a possible precursor of the insulinotropic compound ferulic acid is a candidate for this effect.

Title of the Study: Effect of oryzanol and ferulic acid on the glucose metabolism of mice fed with a high-fat diet / Myoung Jin Son, Catherine W Rico, Seok Hyun Nam, Mi Young Kang / Journal of Food Science

The results of this study illustrate that oryzanol could reduce the risk of high-fat-diet-induced hyperglycemia via regulation of insulin secretion and hepatic glucose-regulating enzyme activities.
